Cycle to Lille for a Maize Mill · 29 May 2011
Thanks for taking the time to visit this JustGiving page. We have completed one cycle trip when Howard, Andrew and Paul cycled from Calais to Lille on Sunday 29th May and cycled back on Bank Holiday Monday. Another group are doing it again on Saturday 9th July. This time its in the family - Paul, Andrew and Matthew.
We are raising money to power a Maize Mill in Uganda. The first phase - last year - was to provide funds for a building and the mechanical components of the mill. The second phase is to provide funding for electrical power to the mill. This is an operation requiring contractors to install transformers and a kilometre of cabling and pylons to connect to the grid.
The total cost of this phase is £11,500
I will be visiting the mill in July along with a team of 8 volunteers. We hope that the mill will be in operation by then so we can bring back photographs. This project, once complete, will have significant impact on local people as the cost of buying Maize flour – the staple food - is increasing all the time.. The mill will also significantly reduce the cost of feeding 500 children at the Stephen Jota childrens centre.
