Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

I am trying to raise money for Cancer Research UK in the name of David Bowie, he was a constant part of my life through his music from 1972 until he died. I work for Cancer Research UK In Hounslow West London and all the money raised will go directly to them. The views on this page are my own and not those of Cancer Research UK.

Cancer is a dreadful disease that touches the lives of millions of people every year, in the last few weeks it has claimed the lives of David Bowie, Alan Rickman & Lemmy from Motorhead as well as being responsible for the deaths of Mick Ronson & Trevor Boulder from Bowie's legendary backing band 'The Spiders From Mars' After David died I was reading that he had broken the record for the most views of his videos online in a single day (Monday 11th January) with 51 million views of his work! For perspective, that’s equivalent to the entire population of South Korea watching a Bowie video once. I was thinking if every one of those people gave just one pound to help fight cancer how much closer we would be to ending this terrible illness so that is what I am asking, if you have ever liked a David Bowie song or if one of his songs brings back happy memories then please give just £1.00 to help fight Cancer.

In the 1970's when David first found international fame as Ziggy Stardust just 1 in 4 people who had cancer survived now it's 2 in 4 they are hoping that by 2050 that number can be 3 in 4, we might be too late to have saved David but we can help our children and grandchildren have a better chance of survival in his name.

I want to make this more than just a page to raise money to fight cancer it would be nice if it was also a celebration of David's life and his work so I would would like to officially hand any money raised over to Cancer Research UK in Hounslow and have a David Bowie day where we can sell Bowie related items have tribute acts play and have as many people who can be there enjoy a day of his music while raising money to help a fantastic cause.

That is the other thing I would like to ask to make the day as successful as possible does anyone know a David Bowie tribute act who would be willing to donate a few hours of their time? A Ziggy tribute would be fantastic but any era would be great also I am donating half of my beloved Bowie vinyl collection and I collect Music Papers from the 1970's so will donate any that feature David, we will need as many items as possible to sell so if anyone would be kind enough to donate anything they can spare related to David Bowie (vinyl, CD's Magazines etc) it will all raise much needed money (I will pay postage for anything donated) and if we can gift aid the items we can get 25% extra for the charity from the government!

A date has yet to be set but I would think it would be late March, I will keep this page and the Twitter page (@donatefordavid) related to it updated with what will be happening and where we are etc. Pictures will be taken on the day as well as video of anyone performing that will be uploaded for people who can't get there. Anyone who donates an item we sell if they would like to give me their contact details, will be kept informed of how much it sells for if they are not there on the day. Please feel free to e mail me at donatefordavid@outlook.com  if you have any questions relating to donations or where we are for the David Bowie Day.
