Information and biography of the current Mayor of Fylde.

COUNCILLOR PAUL RIGBY

The Mayor of Fylde, Councillor Paul Rigby was born in Lytham Hospital on 15 September 1951. One of six children he has two sisters and three brothers.

He went to St. Cuthbert’s Primary School and Carr Hill Secondary School.

He has been married to Margaret for 34 years and they have two grown up children and one granddaughter.

Farming is in his blood;his mother was from a farming family namely the Warbricks from Blackburn’s Farm Wrea Green.

He has lived and farmed in Warton all his life, firstly working on the family farm and for the past 28 years at his own farm, Wrea Brook Farm. After attending Carr Hill High School his son William decided to continue the family tradition and now works with his dad on the family farm.

Paul’s father was a former chairman of the Fylde Rural District Council.Following in his father’s footsteps he became a parish Councillor for Bryning with Warton and Fylde Borough Councillor, initially, for Bryning with Warton and now for Warton and Westby.

He is highly involved with the local community:

Member of the Warton Scout and Guide Management Committee
Former Governor of Pear Tree School Kirkham

He doesn’t have much spare time but he is a season ticket holder for Preston North End.

The Mayoresses-Elect are his wife Margaret and daughter Nicola.

Margaret provides invaluable support to Paul both in terms of the farm and his political career. This mostly involves answering the phone, organising his calendar and getting him to meetings on time! Margaret is also from a farming background; she grew up at Old Hall Farm, Lea and attended St. Andrew’s Primary School and then the Park School in Preston. Margaret then went to work for the Lancashire Family Practitioner Committee before leaving to bring up her family.

His daughter Nicola is married to James who works for Bae Systems in Warton and they have a one year old daughter called Grace. Nicola went to St. Paul’s Primary School in Warton before attending Elmslie Girls School Blackpool. After leaving school in 1994 Nicola went to work for Preston City Council where she currently works as a Legal Assistant.
