Grunty Fen Half Marathon 2011, Ely / Chariots of Fire 2011, Cambridge · 11 September 2011

We want to ensure that every patient at Addenbrooke's and the Rosie hospitals experiences the highest quality of care available. We raise funds for cutting edge technology, additional specialist staff and extra comforts for patients, over and above what is possible with NHS funding alone.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

So it's been over 2 years now since I ran the London Marathon in 2009 and everybody helped to raise a lot of money for a great cause! A lot has happened since then...lots of beers have been drunk, pies have been eaten and my marathon fitness has certainly taken a back seat.

As most of you know, on the 6th June, this year, our beautiful little girl Hannah was born 1 month premature at  the Rosie Hospital, Cambridge. She required 24 hour round the clock care in the Special Care Baby Unit (SCBU).  In just over a week, with the help and support of all the lovely nurses and doctors there, we were able to bring our little girl home. Those 2 weeks were the scariest of my life, but from the nurses on the Lady Mary Ward, to our lovely midwife Sophie and the team on the SCBU, my precious little girl managed to get through it and all 3 of us are now safe and well and happy at home.

It's a well known fact that father's feel useless throughout pregnancy and the birth of their little one, but after everything that the Rosie Hospital did for us, what better way to say thank you, and do my bit, than to get those running shoes brushed off and for me to get back on the road again!!

So this september, I will be running in 2 events on consequtive weekends:

1) 11th September: Grunty Fen Half Marathon, Witchford, Ely (13.1 miles) - http://www.elyrunners.co.uk/gruntyfen/

2) 14th September : Chariots of Fire 2011, Cambridge (1.7 miles - 1 leg of a 6 man team from work, Aixtron Ltd.)  - http://www.chariots-of-fire.co.uk/

All the money raised from both these events will go straight back into the Rosie Hospital campaign to raise money for their brand new three story extension.  More information can be found on the following link - http://www.therosiecampaign.org.uk/

Please be generous, I know it's a difficult time for everyone and money is tight, but think about the warm feeling you'll have in your belly knowing you have helped many sick babies and their families just like our beatiful Hannah!

Thank you in advance and wish me luck!

Paul :o)
