Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

I am launching my appeal today Monday the 10th May at the start of Mental health awareness week. On Monday 21st of June I will be attempting the greatest challenge of my life, the 6 peak challenge in memory of Fire Fighter Andrew Moore. This will challenge me both physically and mentally.

5691 suicides were registered in England and Wales in 2019. Data published by the Office for National Statistics show 12 men commit suicide in the UK every day.

Andy Moore was a fire fighter based at Wolverhampton Fire station in Merridale Street and and he was my partners brother. Whilst on night duty on February 16th last year Andy tragically took his own life.I saw and  watched the pain, devastation and heart break that Andy's family and friends suffered as they tried to understand Andy's suicide.

The more I learned about Andy the more I was inspired by his physical and mental strength. Andy had fought a long battle with poor mental health. He did not accept his depression without a fight and would undertake some very ardent physical and mental challenges in an attempt to keep his mental health balanced.

In 2015 Andy entered and completed the Devicez to Westminster canoe race - a grueling 125 mile canoe race up the River Thames. 2016 saw him compete in the Fan Dance. The Fan dance, an SAS selection test is a formidable 24km route march through the Brecon
Beacons, its  a test of strength and mind. Andy not only won his veteran category but got over all fastest time of the day and today is still number 23 in the league table. Andy's last challenge was in  June 2018 when he completed the 3 peaks cycle challenge - climbing and cycling between each mountain. He completed this challenge in a remarkable 52 hours.

I would like Andy's legacy to be one of strength, inspiration and hope. I hope by pushing myself as Andy did I  can raise money for Mind, a much needed charity, who provide advice and support for
people struggling with poor mental health.

So on Monday 21st June I will start my own 6 peak challenge. Like Andy ( but slower) I will be starting at Mount Snowdon and climbing and cycling between each mountain on my way up to Ben Nevis over a period of 6 days. Once completed I will then be joining up with the fit minds community, lead by Chloe Corney and will then complete the 24 hour 3 peak challenge from Ben Nevis back to my starting point at Mount Snowdon.

If you knew Andy or know someone who is struggling with depression or poor mental health then i would appreciate your support for this much needed charity.
