Story
As some of you will know it’s been an interesting few years for various Capletons. The current count is Anna leading the way with a perfect 2-0 score line. I am still winning with a 1.5 v 0 and Dad bringing up the rear with a frankly pathetic, only beaten Cancer once 1-0 score….. That’s a combined score of Capletons 4.5 vs Cancer 0
We are very lucky, very lucky indeed and I don’t think any of us take it for granted. Speaking for myself I have been on a journey that has taught me a huge amount about myself, given me the opportunity to meet many people along the way who have humbled me, have made me smile, kept me positive and frankly given up their time and energy to ensure I was well and for this I am eternally grateful.
What makes me most humble and is a rather sobering thought is that there have been a few people I have met along the way, in the same situation as me that didn’t make it. It’s a lottery, and when you think that one in three people will be affected by cancer at some point in their life it’s no longer a rare occurrence, it doesn’t make you special, it is a part of life.
I was given the all clear for the next two years only last week. I wanted to celebrate this by joining Jim, Delwyn and Graham in raising money for MacMillan. I see this as an opportunity to draw a line under my particular story and move forward. My Family were lucky not to have needed MacMillan’s help, but there are so many that do and the work that Macmillan do with those less fortunate is amazing. I’ve seen it first hand and they deserve all the help they can get.
I am therefore asking for a bit of money from you, and in return we will flog ourselves within an inch of our golfing lives… We are taking on the Longest Day Challenge as a foursome. We are trying to play four rounds of golf in one day, we will start at 5.30am at first light and keep whacking, thwacking and hacking away until we have played all 72 holes, even if it is in darkness. For those of you that think this is going to be easy, think again… it’s best part of a marathon with a bag on your back… and chasing a bloody ball that never goes quite where you want it.. as four rounds would usually take about 16 hours, so we would need to do it at a good pace too.
Please give generously, this is my chance to give something back and my only fundraising effort. I am moving on with my life, but want to give something tangible back to say thanks for the love support and help I have received for the last 4 years.
