Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
Since retiring four years ago, part of my spare time has given over to volunteering at The Cardinal Hume Centre, where firstly I worked as a one to one reading coach and latterly in the Gateway Hub where people of all faiths and none are welcomed and receive a full assessment of their needs, advice on services available to them and referral to a support worker. Among the areas where the Centre can help clients include employment support, housing advice, adult learning and immigration advice. Homelessness is just as major an issue as it was
when Cardinal Basil Hume founded the Centre in 1986 and each year over sixty homeless young people live at the Centre where they are given one to one support with access to training, education and work.
There are many success stories written by former clients of the hostel on the Centre website www.cardinalhumecentre.org.uk
When I walk along Victoria Street and see the number of homeless people sleeping out in all weathers it angers me that as an individual there is little I can do to help alleviate a state of affairs that should not exist in a first world country such as the UK. However, charities like the Cardinal Hume Centre can do much to help those who, for whatever reasons, live on the margins. So, thank you for visiting my page and any donation you can make will be much appreciated by those whoselives the Centre helps improve.
Thank you
Paul
