The North East Trust for Aphasia (NETA) supports people with aphasia and their carers. Aphasia means difficulties with communication, often following stroke. The person with aphasia can have problems speaking, understanding, reading and writing. This can have major effects for both the person and their family in terms of social life, work and relationships.

Story

The North East Trust for Aphasia (NETA) is a charity which aims to support people and their families in the North East who have aphasia.

Aphasia (or dysphasia) means problems with communication (speaking, understanding, reading and/or writing) which affect people later in life. This is often after stroke.

I work in the Speech and Language Sciences at Newcastle University, which is where the NETA Aphasia Support Centre is based. The Centre is the main destination of funds raised by the running team. The Centre provides a service to people with aphasia but also additional training opportunities for students training to be speech and language therapists (SLTs).
