Ever since Macmillan were so helpful to me when I had a brush with cancer in 2000 I have wanted to do something to help them.

I've also wanted to hike the Machu Picchu trail, my children are sick of hearing me go on about it!

So this is a chance to do both. I shall fund my trip with money left to me by Uncle John, who would approve the travel and walking no end, so anything you donate will go straight to Macmillan.

We can do nothing about the chance that gives us a treatable cancer or a fatal variety. We can help to make the non-medical aspects of caring as effective, informative and supporting as possible. That is where Macmillan steps in, whether it is with their great web-site, or their nurses who seemed to appear when I was most vulnerable. 

I am training by doing two things I love, walking and singing. If you want to join me in a hike, or use me as a singer, or organise an event I would be so grateful - and so will Macmillan!
