Story

Hi everybody,
Thank you for visiting my fundraising page.
Most of my friends know that I am to realise my dream of going to Peru to explore the Inca Trail in September 2005.
I haven't got a fundraising target as I have decided to pay for myself to go - obviously I want to raise as much as possible and because I am doing it this way, all monies raised will go directly to the charity and to exactly where I want them to go to - the children and not administration.
I decided on a week when I could choose my own Charity and then thought "Where on earth do I start?". I sat myself down and narrowed it down by deciding to do something for children, my own way of saying thank you for my own healthy kids. The next bit got me thinking for a few weeks until I suddenly thought, I work in an Eye Care Centre for an Ophthalmologist - the obvious choice then was a Charity for visually impaired children. The National Blind Childrens' Society was decided upon after researching a number of different charities - firstly because they agreed with me that the important people are the children and that the money needed to go to them, secondly because they are not a massive organisation that is constantly in the press - I felt they needed the money more, and lastly because I liked the services that they offered, eg making sure children have correct ICT equipment at home/school, activity holidays and custom made large print books.

I know many of you sponsored me 2 years ago when I went to Cuba - I raised £3,100 for Professor Robert Winston's Queen Charlotte Research Centre in London. It was a fantastic trip, a wonderful country and I thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience.

Peru is a country I have wanted to visit for over 20 years, so I am living my dream! I liked the fact that I could do something I wanted to do whilst helping other people. So, now it's time to get stuck in with the training. I went to Snowdonia for the weekend with Charity Challenge in March. The weekend had perfect weather. I met some amazing people who continually inspire me with their stories. We had a 10 mile hike to the top of Snowdonia on the Saturday and a 6 mile hike on the Sunday - I had NO blisters I'm pleased to report but was rather footsore! A glass of wine after dinner sent me to the land of nod at 9pm! I also have a very enthusiastic trainer at the gym! He has devised a lovely (being sarcastic here!) programme for me to do three times a week. So, down to the nitty gritty! - Please sponsor me online. Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor me: National Blind Childrens Society will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you. Many thanks for your support Beverley
