Many of you will know that our daughter Jessica was diagnosed with cancer last summer, at the age of only 20months.  She has been through an intensive treatment schedule (chemotherapy, stem cell harvest and transplant, radiotherapy, and now immunotherapy) which is due to complete in July this year - practically a year to the day we had the diagnosis.  She has responded really well to all treatment so far, and we are looking forward to being able to resume a normal-ish sort of life.

All her treatment has taken place on Ward 10 at St James Leeds, which is the regional centre for childhood cancers.  Its a sad fact that many of the facilities that Ward 10 offers are not actually provided by the NHS but are funded partly or in whole by the charity CANDLELIGHTERS - from the playstaff, some of the food services, right through to some of the medical machines and ward infrastructure.  Without Candlelighters support the ward would be an even harder place to be on.

As a personal challenge I'm taking part in the Brian Robinson Challenge in April with a couple of old school friends, and I wanted to use the opportunity to help raise some funds for Candlelighters.  The BRC is a cyclosportive that loops up and down the Pennine hills around Huddersfield - it's 77miles and includes about 10,000ft of climbing...thats about 6hrs in the saddle!

Please give as much as you can - everything WILL make a real difference to the children and their families that have to use the service.  This year particularly has challenges, since the whole service is moving to St James and Candlelighters have launched a campaign to raise £500k in order to help make the new facilities as pleasant as they can be.  For more details on Candlelighters please visit their website.
