Story
Hi all,
Just a quick background to why i'm doing tough mudder and the reasons i chose Alzheimer's UK as my charity.
First and foremost i got roped into tough mudder when a friend signed me up as a Christmas present (it was between that and a coffee machine, but you can't raise money for charity drinking coffee can you!) because of the physical challenge it poses, the obvious competition between us as friends, and the difference we hope we can make with the money we raise for our chosen charities.
Now for the reasons behind choosing Alzheimer's Research UK. As many of my friends know (who will hopefully all be reading this and donating!) around 12 months ago my Gran had a stroke and since then the downhill progression we've seen in her physical and mental well being has been been an eye-opener into the effects of Alzheimers and dimentia. After the stroke we found that Gran was in an advanced stage of Alzheimer's causing the onset of dimentia. Too cut a long story short, Gran is now happy in her thoughts and memories, however she no longer has control over her day-to-day life, she is easily confused, and slowly her memory and awareness of the current time are both beginning to slip away from her. As a result i feel it a fitting tribute to her struggle and to her life to donate my fundraising total, however much it may be, too Alzheimer's Research UK to help them in all the fantastic work that they're doing.
Alzheimer's Research UK are one of the leading charities in trying to make a breakthrough in the field of dimentia. The work they're doing in trying to find preventions, treatments and ultimately a cure could change the lives of a staggering 820,000 people who are affected by dimentia. The charity itself receives very little government funding and therefore relies heavily on those people, like you, who are willing to donate to the cause to help them change peoples lives!
