IRONMAN UK · 14 July 2019 ·

Sepsis accounts for 48,000 deaths annually in the UK, that’s more than breast, bowel and prostate cancer put together. Sepsis is what happens when our immune system overreacts to an infection. Symptoms initially present as flu like but can rapidly deteriorate into a life threatening condition.

Story

On the 14th July 2019 I will be taking part in the Ironman UK triathlon race. If you're not sure what that is, let me explain a little. It is an endurance triathlon that consists of a 2.4 mile open water swim, 112 mile road cycle and to finish a 26.2 mile run. Oh and it's my birthday that day too.

As I'm sure you will have all have noticed, I have dropped a fair bit of blubber over the past 12 months or so and I needed something to aim for to keep me going and what better way than to go to the extreme and compete in Ironman UK.

Originally I was just going to do the race just for myself and not do any fundraising but over the past year I have lost two people I was very close to to Sepsis. Before this I honestly didn't know much about it and now I do it is quite scary to say the least. I thought I would use this opportunity to raise people's awareness of Sepsis.
