Milne's Thames Challenge Walk · 31 October 2012

We are Great Ormond Street Hospital Charity. We stop at nothing to help give seriously ill children childhoods that are fuller, funner and longer. Because we believe no childhood should be lost to illness.

Story

Charlie was born in September with severe hyperinsulinism.  This genetic condition meant his pancreas was overproducing insulin, leaving him unable to control his blood sugar. After three months in Great Ormond Street, a scan in Berlin, numerous general anaesthetics, and two operations to remove sections of his pancreas, Charlie came home essentially cured from his condition. However, then followed a severe problem with reflux eventually diagnosed as an allergy to dairy products. Charlie suffered from feeding difficulties which continued well into his second year.

Thanks to the wonderful care, advice and support received from the HI team at GOSH, Charlie is now developing as a normal and cheerful 2 year old. The outcome for others has not always been so good and we as a family would like to raise money to support the HI fund (www.hi-fund.org) to help them continue their research and support other children with this rare condition.

As part of our fundraising, we're walking 172 miles of the Thames over Easter 2013.  The challenge will take 11 days, starting from the source and finishing at GOSH. Whilst we take on the aching legs, blisters, and British weather conditions, we’re hoping you can help as along the way by digging deep and sponsoring us.

Thanks from the Milnes, anyone else crazy enough to join us, and of course a special thanks from Charlie.
