Liverpool - Leeds 200km canal by bike in aid of SVP Leeds children’s camp · 21 July 2019

The St Vincent de Paul Society (England & Wales) is a Christian voluntary organisation which provides practical help to anyone affected by poverty and disadvantage. Our 10,000 volunteers offer friendship to people who are lonely or isolated and we deliver specialist services in local communities.

Story

I'm attempting to cycle the Liverpool Leeds canal to raise money for the SVP Leeds and District Children’s Camp. The charity provides a week-long camping holiday in the Yorkshire Dales for children, aged 7-13, experiencing disadvantage through difficult social / family / economic circumstances including children suffering bereavement, bullying, ill family members, living in poverty or children who are carers themselves. For whatever reason, these kids need and deserve a break! And to find space, fun and friendship in the beauty of the Dales.

Annually we aim to fund raise to provide 80+ children with a holiday. This year we also desperately need to purchase a new marquee, so that the children can eat and play in comfort when it rains!

A few weeks ago, some friends walked 40 miles from Skipton to Leeds for the same purpose. My knackered knee restricted me to driving the support bus, but the Doc reckons cycling isn't as bad if I take it slow so  here goes....

It costs about £95 to fund a child and I sponsor one myself, but it will be great if you could contribute a few quid so one or two more kids can be funded.

P.S. Don’t forget to Gift Aid if you can.

Many thanks.  Peter Cooling
