So why the London Marathon? This is a question I've asked myself many times over the past few weeks. Early morning runs in freezing conditions, monsoon rains, sleet, snow, mud ice and flooded paths have tested my resolve. I've managed to keep going and managed to include more exotic locations to run, during trips abroad. This included the run in the desert in Al Ain (30 degree heat, a dried up river bed and a large herd of goats was a change from Richmond Park) and circuits of the Charles river basin in Boston (where Spring has arrived). Over 600 miles and I'm nearly there and no injuries  (unless you count my toenails).

This will be one of the greatest physical challenges I have encountered and I'm now really looking forward to it. I'm running for GOSH Charity as they do so much to support the work that we do and I just wanted to say 'thanks' in a tangible way. The benefits of this is that they give you a distinctive running vest (hopefully it will be warmer by race day), a much needed massage at the end and there's no chance I'll need to don a banana costume!

I am so grateful for your support to help me get across the line, its all the motivation I need!

What a fantastic day! 4 hours 18 minutes was within my target time. Thanks GOSCC for their organised cheering and for the massage at the end. Anna my 4 year old, who watched at home, told me she was proud that I had won it (I was on the television crossing the line).

Only 12 hours and an indeterminate amount of sleep left to go. Ate my last supper of sea bass, mash potato and vegetables (missed the wine!) and packed my bag to take tomorrow. Looking forward to the day. The adrenaline is already flowing.

Friday and less than 48 hours to go. Feeling a bit nervous but finding a lot of encouragement from this page. It seems that I'll definitely beat Mo Farah (he's only running half this year) so I hope he's at the finish to cheer me on! Thanks again everyone

Yesterday I went to the Marathon Expo to get my number and timing chip. Its really happening! My T shirt's printed, carb loading is underway, nipple tape and gels are ready. I'm very excited and I'm really looking forward to it.

Only 4 days to go now. Tapering this week - lots of carbs and rest (thanks Anna for the lovely flapjacks). Only 26.2 miles left to run. My race number is 39897 so you can follow me on line. Thanks again everyone for your support. Peter
