We campaign, support and fund research to stop people dying of bowel cancer

Story

Who would have thought I’d be running a half marathon and using a 10km race as a training run? Certainly not me! I joined my local running club (Pencoed Panthers) c25k plan in January this year. Initially just wanting to get fit for an upcoming holiday and loose some weight - I never really intended to run further than 10km.

But... somebody told me about the Run Wales 100 Club - a search for 100 women in Wales who had never ran a half marathon were ready for the challenge. I’m not quite sure why, but I signed up. Maybe it was the for the freebies? Maybe it was for the challenge? But one things for sure - life is too short to pass upon once in a life time opportunities like this.

In 2018 my Dad lost his battle with bowl cancer after a 3 year battle. Although the initial tumour was removed within a week of diagnosis the Cancer crept back and spread. Cancer sucks, as 15 years ago my Mum passed after a battle with Stomach Cancer and probably like many of us, we’ve been affected by cancer in some way.

I wanted to use this opportuntiy of me doing something that I (and probably a lot of other people as well) thought I’d never do and try and raise some money to help Bowel Cancer UK.

They are the leading bowel cancer charity. Funding targeted research, providing expert information and support to patients and their families, educate the public and professionals about the disease and campaign for early diagnosis and access to best treatment and care.
