Story
“ RUN FAT BOY RUN”
The challenge began in October 2009 when Steve the operations Manager at the Hospice said he had entered the Great North Run for 2010. I decided that wouldn’t be hard and if he could do it so could I. However when the results of the ballot were through I had a place but Steve didn’t. So after a lie down with a Twix and a large bottle of lucozade I appointed Steve as my coach and he is planning my training regime.
Last time I ran a half marathon I was in the army serving in . We ran around the great cricket ground at 06.30hrs before it got unbearably hot. Since then the only running I have done is to the fridge or the burger bar.
I am putting myself through all this pain (and believe me it hurts) to raise money for Hospice . At St Luke’s where I am Facilities Manager (for those who don’t know what happened to me after the army) they support fundraising efforts for Hospice during one week a year. The day care patients organise fundraising themselves and this year I would like to add to their collection. We are hoping to be able to raise enough money to fund a Hospice nurse to go to for a week to share the knowledge and expertise we have at St Luke’s. We know from feedback that this is the best way to use the funds and is very much welcomed by Hospice who have so little.
So please support me. Every little really does make a difference and look out for me on TV on the 19 September. Hopefully by then I will be the “not so fat boy from St Luke’s”
