Philip's Newbury Triathlon page

Newbury Triathlon · 5 September 2021
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page. At the ripe age of 60 I am taking part in Newbury triathlon this Sunday. I am fundraising for the ILA who do fantastic work for women, girls and boys who are subjected to appalling abuses as a matter of daily life in Iran.
When I was 16 my mum, who was teaching at the college in Newbury came home one day with a gorgeous young Iranian lad called Vahid. She said that Vahid was now part of our family. I was, slightly confused to say the least! But we learnt that as a result of regime change Vahid now had nothing, and couldn't go home. What I didn't know then was that my wonderful Mum had said to Vahid that afternoon "I went to work with three children, but I I go home with four".
We grew to love Vahid, bu for him this was not a fairy tale. Imagine not being able to see your family for years.
Once, the powers that be had him on a flight back to Iran, until my Dad rushed to Heathrow and had to pay to stop the deportation.
Not everyone has my Mum and Dad looking out for them but the ILA do this work, helping extremely vulnerable people in Iran to have a better life.
