Philip Rodway Remembrance

Philip Cowell is raising money for RAF Museum
In memory of Philip Rodway
The RAF has shaped our nation and our society. It has influenced how we live our lives today through its impact on world events, society and technology. Our purpose is to share the story of the RAF, and its people – using the stories in our collections to engage, inspire and encourage learning.

Story

We have decided to create this Just Giving Page in remembrance to Philip Rodway who sadly passed away on 15 Nov 2021.

Philip was an RAF Veteran and member of the RAF association. He was also a friend of the RAF museum at Hendon and in his retirement he worked there as a volunteer, running the films in the little cinema. He loved anything to do with the RAF, an avid air show attendee and museum visitor. When thinking about a charity for Dads remembrance it was tricky. He actually gave to many charities, but somehow the RAF museum seemed a fitting charity as it was somewhere he loved.

'Phil' as he was known to his friends was a sociable soul and enjoyed attending all sorts of clubs and social groups. He was an enthusiastic amateur radio user and was a musical man. He played keyboard, piano, organ and trumpet in many different bands and loved nothing more than playing for others. For someone who often seemed on the surface quiet and humble he was a confident performer and even in his latter years sought out opportunities to play with, and for others, playing his trumpet in a local Gosport band at the tender age of 85!

He was a kind and honest gentleman through and through. We were very lucky to have him in our lives. He will be very sadly missed but with lots of happy memories he will never be forgotten.

A wonderful Husband,  Dad , Grandad and Uncle.
