British 10K London Run 2014 · 13 July 2014 ·
I am running the British 10k London Run 2014 on 13th July to raise funds for UK farming charity the Royal Agricultural Benevolent Institution (R.A.B.I).
I ran Brighton Marathon in April after a tough winter of training, but that was nothing compared to the living nightmare farmers faced battling the winter floods.
The floods, especially on the Somerset Levels, devastated many farming businesses and their families. The stories of personal disaster I heard from farmers while writing news for Farmers Weekly left a mark on me, so I vowed to raise money for them.
Although the floodwaters have receded, we mustn’t forget that many farming businesses still face an uphill struggle to get their business back in order, which could take up to two years in extreme cases.
They need all the help they can to get their lives back on track so they can keep providing us with our food – something all of us take for granted.
R.A.B.I, supports members of the farming community who need help due to hardship, old age, disability or unforeseen events. Each year R.A.B.I provides help for over 1,500 individuals or families, paying in excess of £2 million.
Many are retired farmers who are struggling to get by on low incomes. Others need help at times of crisis during flooding or outbreaks of animal disease.
Please sponsor me and help make a difference to the lives of people in the farming community who desperately need our support.
