Story

It is with such great sadness that we announce the death of Philip Dewhurst. He was a huge character, a kind and jovial man, a raconteur, and great company to his many, many friends. But more than anything else, he was a much-loved brother and cousin, a devoted husband to Renee, a warm and loving father to Rachel and Raoul, and a proud, doting grandfather to Max, Elise, and Niamh.

Brought up in Zimbabwe, he was an African at heart, despite the move to Royal Tunbridge Wells at the age of 62 in 2010, to be close to his children (and very soon after, his grandchildren!). With a legion of friends still in Africa, he set about charming the locals here to great effect. Philip worked part-time for Roskills from home at first but soon began to devote himself to charity work (CAB, Oxfam) and the golf courses of Kent and Sussex.

Family was always the most important thing to Philip and, whilst 'home' was where his family was, in his heart, he was always a Zimbo, and ZANE was a charity that he admired and respected.

Philip leaves a hole in all our lives - we are missing a friend, a cousin, a brother, a husband, a father, and a grandfather. We hope you will remember him as we will, and as he is shown above - strong, fit, and happy, with the African sun on his face and a lifetime of adventures and tales under his belt.
