Story

Update: 31/08/2018

I have finished!

Riding 140 miles including many miles of galloping in a Russian saddle (quite difficult to stand up in) over mountains, across sand dunes and desert. Our max speed was 46 kilometres per hour with the temperature ranging from 7 degrees at night to 42 degrees some days. Got to drink fermented mare's milk which was an experience.

A terrific Thank You to everyone who sponsored me. If you haven't already its not too late.

One week to go!

Thank you all so much for your amazing and continued support. With just over a week to go I am getting nervous, but with everyone believing in me I am as determined as ever. I am overwhelmed by everyone's generosity and the fact that we have nearly doubled the original target of £2000. Thank you.

There is someone special that I have to thank for helping me get fit and ride ready for this trip and that is my greatest equine friend Shadow who even at 22 is eager to go out for a 5 mile ride before work at 6.30am.

Keep an eye out for photo updates while I am away.

Update:08/07/2018

Thank you everyone, your support is amazing and the total donations to date are £2000, which I am blown away by!

Well, there is no going back now as all visas are through and the flights paid for. I have had most of my injections though my reaction to Tic Encephalitis was not the nicest, only one more left then I will be covered for everything including Rabies.  As for the fitness side I am up to cycling 3 miles to the pool, swimming 20 lengths and cycling the 3 miles home again or 15 miles on the bike sometimes in the height of the day's sun to help me acclimatise to the Mongolian weather. I have also asked my milk man to bring me goat's milk as that is what I will be drinking during my trip.

Update: 16/05/2018

Thank you so much to everyone who has donated so far, as you can see we are almost half way there!

My fitness training in preparation for this challenge is going very well, I am up to 18 miles a week on horseback and 30 miles on a bike. It's been difficult fitting all the training in around my work, but rest assured, I am right on track to get to Mongolia!

The Gobi Steppe Ride

The Mongolia Challenge Ride covers over 100 miles from Holboo to Arburd Sands, trekking across sand dunes, foothills and rocky outcrops. This will be a massive effort both physically and mentally to prepare for and participate in. I will be spending up to 7 and a half hours in the saddle, sleeping in a traditional Mongolia tent, travelling over varied terrain and encountering adverse weather conditions. But all of this will be well worth it to raise funds for The British Horse Societies welfare fund, who do so much to help relieve equine neglect and suffering.

I hope you can help me in this endeavour and show your support by donating to this worthy course.
