As many of are aware, a dear friend of ours recently passed away. Saagar was a very intelligent, funny and kind person who touched the lives of everyone around him. Unfortunately he suffered from Bipolar, an illness which affects a person's mood, causing them to swing from one extreme to another. Saagar suffered most of his illness in silence, telling most of his friends very little about it, which left his passing very confusing to a lot of people who knew him. Part of the problem of bipolar is the lack of understanding surrounding it, and the presumptions people have about it, which just add to the difficulties of living with it.
If more research and time was spent finding out more about the condition and what can be done to help it, then those who live with the illness can be treated more effectively and have a better quality of life. Bipolar affects 1-3% of the population, and at least a quarter of suffers have attempted suicide once.
We are going to be running the half marathon in March to raise money for Bipolar UK - a charity which supports people affected by bipolar, including a particular focus on 18-25yr olds, and their family and friends. It also works with those researching the condition, and aims to reduce the stigma surrounding the illness. It is vitally important that this charity receives more recognition for the work it does and for the people it helps and will help in the future. We need your help, whatever contribution you can make, to help this charity to help people suffering with bipolar nationwide.
