Group B Streptococcus is the UK's most common cause of life-threatening infection in newborn babies & of meningitis in babies under age 3 months. Most of these infections are preventable. Group B Strep Support informs families & health professionals about group B Strep to save tiny lives.

Story

20 years ago, we founded charity Group B Strep Support after our middle child, Theo, died as a result of group B Strep infection.

In this, Group B Strep Support's 20th year, we (Robert, Jane, Oliver and Camilla) are walking 20 miles - read more about our event at https://www.facebook.com/events/1740374256244804/.

We will remember all the babies affected by group B Strep and their families, we will honour all the people over those years who have worked so hard to make avoidable group B Strep infection a thing of the past.

There has been huge progress over the last 20 years - there are national guidelines for prevention, awareness has risen from 10% in 2006 to 50% in 2015, and prevention is firmly on the national agenda - but there is so much more to do. Group B Strep remains the most common cause of life-threatening infection in newborn babies, and of meningitis in babies under 3 months.

On average, every day in the UK, a baby develops group B Strep infection; every week a baby dies from group B Strep infection and every fortnight a survivor is left with long term disability.

This has to change.

The money you give will enable to charity to reach and support more affected families, and reach more pregnant women so they can make informed choices about what is right for them and their babies.
