John Clifton is raising money for The Salvation Army
Story
A committee of faith leaders in Redbridge has come together to work on an innovative approach to homelessness in Ilford.
We are aiming to open a site in Ilford Town Centre, at the place where The Salvation Army first met when it came to the town, which will provide temporary accommodation tailored specially to the needs of the rough sleepers in Redbridge, focusing on getting into employment resulting in self sufficiency, reconnection to country of origin and gaining leave to remain/naturalisation thus becoming eligible for support from mainstream services. The development will incorporate a dedicated workshop for recycles, a bike refurbishment social enterprise (www.recycles-ilford.co.uk) which provides accredited training.
The project will be the first of its kind in the UK also focusing on the rough sleepers who have No Recourse to Public Funds (NRPF).
John Clifton, and his team at the Salvation Army Ilford have already carried out a feasibility study, investigating sustainable funding and innovative building development. There are some images below that show a recent #shippingcontainer development in Ealing. There have also been progressive discussions with Redbridge Council in regards to leasing the proposed site on Chadwick Road.
