My grandma, after living an incredibly happy and healthy life was diagnosed with primary breast cancer which spread to her bones. She was admitted as an inpatient into The Christie Hospital, Manchester where she was treated. 

To say my grandma found the sudden adjustment to her life was an understatement. After being the most positive, independent, social woman I have ever known she was confined to hospital life and found it incredibly difficult to accept and stay positive.

The Christie Hospital also treated both of my amazing grandads, great grandma and family friends, and have been truely amazing, the facilities that the hospital offers is just unbelievable, and with the help from the nurses and doctors around my grandma, they managed to not only medically treat her cancer, but they also kept her spirits high, and helped her keep fighting.

Thanks to The Christie my grandma is now in remission, something my grandma and our family never thought was possible when we first heard her diagnosis. From what we thought was an incredibly bleak future, my grandma has now been told she has 'years to live' and our family is forever grateful for everything the hospital has done for her. 

I am definitely not a natural runner, and this will be really tough, but I will be training properly for it, and I really want to do something challenging to say thanks to this amazing hospital.
