About PEAS
PEAS' vision is a world where all children enjoy an education that unlocks their full potential. To achieve that, PEAS aims to get more kids in Uganda and Zambia through quality secondary education.
The Challenge
By 2050, there’s going to be a billion young people in Africa. However, only 1 in 3 children in Sub-Saharan Africa are able to get a secondary education. There are simply not enough affordable secondary schools, and sadly it’s the poorest, children in rural areas, and girls who are being left behind.
PEAS was founded on the belief that secondary education is the single biggest opportunity to realise the potential of that bulging youth population. Research shows that every $1 invested in extra years of education delivers $10 of combined financial and health benefits.
What we do
PEAS builds and runs schools in areas where they are needed most. We reserve 50% of school places for girls, who traditionally face additional barriers to education. Over 60% of PEAS students come from the poorest 40% of the population.
With 35 schools and 15,000 students, PEAS is now the leading network of affordable secondary schools in Africa. To drive quality PEAS provides a comprehensive range of support and supervision services to our network, like financial audits, inspections, and teacher training. Our core group of schools in Uganda are in the top 10% of schools in terms of learning progress while running at far lower costs.
