Story
We are beyond terrified to tell you all thaton the 9th of October 2013, as part of the QBE team, we will be trekking to the summit of the highest free standing mountain in the world, Mount Kilimanjaro! Also known as the roof of Africa!
We still can't believe we have agreed to this.....particularly when some of our initial concerns were...’I wonder if I can get pink walking boots’, ‘Where is Kilimanjaro?’ and ‘I doubt there will be any signal up there?’
We will be trekking the Machame route and it is going to take us 7 days. This is going to be the most tiring, physically demanding and mentally challenging experience of our lifetimes so far. The biggest challenge will be coping with the change in altitude (5,895 metres!!)
We will be raising money for the QBE nominated charity for 2013 - Little Havens. Little Havens is a Children's Hospice in Essex, offering regular respite, end of life care and bereavement support to children and their families who are affected by life-threatening and life-limiting illnesses. They opened their doors in March 1998 and are the first children's hospice in the South East of England. In that time they have been able to care for over 1,000 families. At the hospice, parents, carers and siblings benefit immeasurably from the home-from-home environment, in which they can take a break from the strain of constant care, and concentrate on being a family.
