Troy's Mission
Campaign by Just4Children (RCN 1164473)
Troy needs to have life changing SDR surgery which is not available on the NHS funding, which will give him the chance to be able to walk independently and live a pain free life.

Story

Troy needs to have life changing SDR surgery which is not available on the NHS funding, which will give him the chance to be able to walk independently and live a pain free life.

Troy was diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy Spastic Diplegia at 18 months old. Troy’s cerebral palsy causes increased muscle tone in his legs and feet which makes them constantly stiff. This affects his balance and coordination.

There isn’t a cure for cerebral palsy unfortunately, but there is a life changing surgery available called Selective Dorsal Rhizotomy (SDR) which is a special technique that involves cutting some of the damaged sensory nerve fibres which are causing the muscle spasticity (stiffness). Without SDR, Troy would face multiple orthopaedic operation, Botox treatment, leg casting throughout his life and would ultimately need a wheelchair. SDR is not currently funded on the NHS.

The money we raise for Just4Children will go towards the costs of the surgery, post-operative intensive physiotherapy and the physiotherapy equipment Troy will require for his rehabilitation.
