Great North Run 2017 · 10 September 2017 ·

We help transform the lives of young people in North Tyneside, especially those that are most in need. From accommodation (tackling homelessness) through to the provision of training, support, advice, youth clubs, activities and services (such as our Nursery and Gym). We're there for young people.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.

This is our first ever Great North Run. In 2014, I sang with my band, The Unthanks, as part of the Great North Run's celebration event, marking it's 'millionth runner,' on the banks of the River Tyne. As a non runner, I never dreamt at the time that a couple of years later I would be entering this fantastic regional event with my best friend, raising money for a great local charity, helping vulnerable young adults in the North East. Partly inspired by those 2014 celebrations, and also falling in love with David Almond's story 'Harry Miller's Run' (itself inspired by the Great North Run), I find myself with the daunting and exciting prospect of actually taking part in the event that I have watched for as long as I can remember, from the safety and comfort of my sofa. Jane and myself have been friends since we were twelve. We are looking forward to taking part in this iconic race, although I'm going to have a hard job keeping up with her.

We are very honoured to be running with YMCA North Tyneside who are doing invaluable work supporting and helping transform the lives of local young people by providing accommodation to those who might otherwise find themselves homeless. They are aiming to increase the accomodation currently available and therefore also increase the number of young people that they can help. It would be wonderful if you could help us achieve this by making a donation.
