The UK's leading charity for veterans' mental health. For over a century, we've helped former servicemen and women deal with issues like trauma, anxiety, depression and post-traumatic stress disorder. Today, we provide support to veterans from every service and every conflict.

Story

"Combat Stress is the leading charity caring for British Veterans who have been profoundly traumatised by harrowing experiences during their Service career."

In June this year I will be walking the Southern Upland Way, the 212 mile long coast to coast path from Portpatrick to Cockburnspath, in aid of Combat Stress. I hope to complete the walk in 10 days.

Combat Stress was founded in 1919 with the aim of caring for the mental health of Veterans. Since 2005 there has been a 72% increase in the numbers of those seeking support and care for their psychological injuries. Courses of residential treatment are offered in three short-stay centres in Ayrshire, Shropshire and Surrey and long term care programmes are now available through Community Outreach teams that are currently being established under "The Enemy Within" appeal. This appeal, launched in March 2010 by HRH The Prince Of Wales, has a huge target of £30m. With the funds raised Combat Stress will be able to enhance and continue the vital care that they provide.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.

You can contact me at rachael.breeze@msn.com if you have any questions (or perhaps just want to point and laugh at my pain!) - there will also be a photo blog of the event for you all to follow!

Thank you all so much for your support.

Rachael
