Story

Thank you for visiting my fundraising page! I will be participating in the L'Etape du Tour on 16th July 2007. Click Link (or Cut and paste into browser to see the route)http://www.letapedutour.com/2007/ETDT/presentation/us/parcours.htm

L'Etape du Tour (or the 'Etape') is a classic annual event that gives amateurs the chance to ride a stage of the Tour de France. The selected route is a mountain stage of the tour that the pros will be riding the following week. This years route is in the Pyrenees and is particulary difficult with a total distance of 124 miles (199km) and 5 mountain stages. The mountains range in distance from 4 miles to 12 miles with gradients reaching 17%.

I have decided to raise money for the Nelson Mandela Childrens Fund. The Fund’s target beneficiaries are South African children and youth who come from impoverished backgrounds. The Goal of the Fund is to improve the well being and rights of children. I hope that my gruelling day in the mountains motivates you to make a donation to the Nelson Mandela Childrens Fund......and it will be gruelling. I must ride the 199km with a minimum average speed of 16.5km per hour (giving me 12 hours). Any slower and the 'broom wagon' sweeps you up and drives you to the finish line. With steep mountain climbs  it won't be easy.

Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Nelson Mandela Children's Fund will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you.

In addition to the Nelson Mandela Childrens Fund, I am supporting CLIC Sargent.  Every day 10 families are told their child has cancer. As the UK's leading children's cancer charity, CLIC Sargent is the only organisation to offer them all round care and support. That’s because they are there every step of the way during treatment, in hostipal, at home and after treatment.

If you would prefer to donate to CLIC Sargent please click on the following link. Of course you can donate to both as well!!

I will be riding together with Gary Harvett. His website can be located at:

Many thanks for your support -- and don't forget to forward this to anyone who you think might want to donate too!
