Yes I know, don't laugh, but I'm attempting Race for Life this year (attempting being the operative word).  Those who know me well, will know this is something out of the ordinary for me to do as fitness is not at the top of my agenda!!  Give me a flake, bottle of magners and a Ben Stiller DVD any day of the week. 

I'm certainly not the fittest person so will probably start off with good intentions i.e. a bit of a warm up followed by a sprint to lure people into thinking I'm good but will quickly slow down to a brisk walk and then ultimately to a sensible amble whilst having a good chat and gossip at the same time with my good friend.   

Joking aside, I'm doing this as cancer has had a huge impact on my life, especially on my mum whom I love very much.  I therefore felt I needed to do my bit so to speak.  My mum has battled and overcome this shocking and cruel disease in February 2008 with such bravery and I am so proud of her.  I think having my little girl, Caitlyn, when I did also gave her something to focus upon and something to live for.

I know its a cliche but I want to give something back so I'm doing this for my mum and every other woman who has to battle this terrible disease.  I also want to mention the Breast Care Team at the Manor Hospital in Walsall - they all deserve a gold medal in my opinion.  They are a fantastic team and I thank them from the bottom of my heart for their input during mum's diagnosis, treatment and ongoing follow up.

I am doing Race for Life with one of my closest friends and work colleagues, Louise Palmer.  She too is undertaking this race for reasons personal to her and I'm sure we will both have a fantastic day.
