Story

Cancer, we're coming to get you!

Thanks for visiting my page!

I am running the 10K race for life this summer in Bristol. My reason for doing this is that sadly earlier this year I lost my Mum to an extremely rare form of cancer. Before this, cancer had never really affected anyone around me and I hadn't witnessed the effects it has on so many people lives. The cancer my mum had was a very aggressive form and we were told it was terminal rather early on. The time between my Mum’s diagnosis and the end of her battle with cancer was only 10 months. Within this time I watched my Mother change from a healthy person able to do everything she wished, to someone who could barely move around the house and was fully reliant on the help of others. One thing I will always remember however was her bravery and happiness even during the most difficult of times. Things like this show you how to never take anything for granted and how quickly such a disease can take an otherwise healthy persons life. You never know when something like this could affect you or someone you love and care about. I believe the more money that can be raised for causes like these, the less people will have to go through the suffering and deterioration cancer causes. One day a cure WILL be found.

Last year my mum watched me, my sister and my friends run the 5k race for life shortly after she had been diagnosed. She loved the fact that we were trying to do something positive in the situation we had found ourselves in. This year I am training to run the whole 10K which I am sure would make her very proud.

I am not the type of person who usually shares things like this but I hope an insight into what it feels like to lose someone you love to cancer may persuade people to dig a little deeper and give a little more to the cause!! All of which will help fund research and treatment.

Many thanks for your support.
