In March last year, my Nanny passed away aged just 74 from what originally started as Breast Cancer and which ended up taking over her whole body. When she was diagnosed with Breast Cancer a few years ago, we didn't ever think we'd be here today, having experienced what we have. Over the years, her cancer spread and developed and it became so agressive that she was given only months to live. As a family, we found that one of the most difficult things to comprehend and we cannot imagine what she must have been feeling as it would have been the most devastating news she had ever heard.
It was so hard for all of us to get our heads round it but she remained strong and kept a brave face even through her worst times. Even though she was aware of her condition, she managed to always smile and laugh whenever we saw her and I'll always remember how happy she was whenever my brother and I went to go and see her in hospital.
She lived a long and happy life, enjoying over 50 years of marriage to her incredibly loyal and loving husband, the upbringing of her 'two gorgeous boys'! and the births (not literally!) of her 3 grandchildren. We all miss her, her optimism and her caring personality unbelievable amounts, RIP Denise x
Unbelievably, Cancer affects 1 in 3 people and there's no stopping it. So many people are affected by it and it's horrible to think how many people's lives are ruined by this horrible disease. Cancer has in some way affected everyone running in our group and we are running in loving memory of my Nanny and in support for all other brave women affected by Breast Cancer. We believe that with your help, support and donations, we can beat Cancer!
