Hi, all of you that know me know that I have had a very tough time in the last year.
Last March my Mum Nellie was diagnosed with lung cancer with secondary cancers, this was roughly the same time we discovered that I was pregnant with Charlie (the little bundle of joy you can see on the left). We as I presume most of the British public were not aware of symptoms and treatments of this horrific disease, we were shocked and surprised that most cancers have no or very subtle symptoms until its too late and the cancer has spread. We unfortunately suffered as every family affected by cancer does with chemotherapy, numerous trips to hospital, treatment at home then finally the support provided by the District Nurses (invaluable and we are forever grateful).
It will take years for me to come to terms with what has happened, and the fact that my Mum never saw my Son Charlie, but I do have to be grateful that she heard his heartbeat, washed his clothes (one of my last living memories is her checking his clothes were dry on the line and bringing them in) knitted him a lovely blanket which I will always cherish and that we were given some time (about 7 months) after the diagnosis, this gave me chance to take her away in the caravan to the lakes which she loved and take her out every weekend for her Sunday roast, this wasn't long enough but its a more than most families get together after getting the dreaded news.
Dont get me wrong, I dont want your sympathy and no matter how tough life has been there is always somebody worse of than yourself, seeing the toddlers & kids walking around Clatterbridge with drips in their arms getting Chemotheraphy and seeing the sheer numbers of people & their families effected by this horrendous disease is heart wrenching, even reading earlier this month one young Liverpool supporter never got to see the end of the season and even asking to be buried in a footy top signed by his idols after going to the doctor with stomach pains in March(http://www.liverpoolfc.tv/news/archivedirs/news/2008/may/5/N159833080505-2300.htm)
We have to stop this suffering and I now feel brave enough to talk about what happened to my Mum and if I, with your help can raise enough money over THE YEAR to try and help one little toddler not suffer, one teenager see who wins the European Cup, one girl in her 20's overcome lymphoma.....the list is endless but my wish would be for one parent to see their grandchild because my Mum didnt .....PLEASE HELP ME TO DO THIS........either sponsor me or why not join me, the more the merrier and the more money we can raise together.....
Love Debbie
