Dear all,
As you are probably aware, my father got an aggressive form of leukemia in February 2009, aged 56. He immediately started treatment and on 1 May he got a stem cell transplant with donor material from his brother, who had turned out to be a suitable bone marrow match. The transplant was successful and I'm happy to say he's still with us, and with luck might be for a long time.
I'm incredibly grateful that he was able to have this fairly new, state-of-the-art treatment. I would therefore like to use the opportunity of a nice run in nice weather in nice Oxford to raise some money for further research, so that others can continue to benefit from breakthroughs in cancer research and treatment.
As things are at the moment, not everyone is lucky enough to recover. I would like to dedicate this run and this sponsorship not just to my dad, but also to the following people:
Gustaaf Van Puymbroeck, d. 17/03/2009;
Hans Günther Muus, d. 18/10/2009;
Roger Van de Velde, d. 20/11/2009;
Doreen Wright, d. 03/02/2010.
Many thanks to the wonderful Semele Assinder, who will be running with me in sympathy, and who is also helping me fundraise.
