Story

On the 6th May 2008 I received this email from my old school friend Mel. She is 35 years old, married to her childhood sweetheart and has two children, Joshua and Anneka.

Well I have had the month from hell....where do I start!!!

On the 18th Feb I jetted off to Spain!  All was going well until day 2... I started vomiting and not able to eat move, sleep etc...  Managed to get home on the 21st Feb still feeling the same, went to the doctors; they thought the same as me picked up a bug, so I was sent home with anti sick tablets etc... this went in for a further 10 days (ie 14days no food). On my fourth trip to doctors they did a blood test.  I went home feeling weak and worse, at this stage I had lost nearly 1½ stone.  We then got a phone call from the doctor telling Les to get me to A&E asap as I was suffering from hypocalcaemia, it was dangerously high and I could slip into a coma if they did not get it under control.

Got there, don’t remember much for the next 3 days as they pumped saline and God knows what else in to me. When I became more aware of what was going on and they had stabilised me I went for various scans. The next day they hit me with my worst fear!  The cancer has taken a good 80% of my liver....

I was let out the next day as they thought they had stabilised me!! Wrong!!  & days later I'm back in but now passing out.

So I think that brings me almost up to date.  I was readmitted Tuesday just gone - more drips, saline, drugs etc, knackered veins!

And that brings me today!  I have been let home for the day to spend with my hubby and kids!  Then I will be back in tonight ready for surgery tomorrow to have a Hickman line put in as my veins have had it. Then if all goes well I can start chemo –Taxatere - on Thurs/Fri but I will still be in hospital so they can keep an eye on my bloods!

So I am sorry to tell you this way but it is probably easier than talking as I get pretty upset trying to come to terms that I will never see my kids grow up... I know my prognosis is not good, 3 years, 5 max if they can hold it at bay! I know things are changing all the times and I am a fighter that has a very good team of doctors, Onc’s, Haematologists etc....   so I am not giving up that easy!!!

At present I am going through intense chemo so again lost my hair (was growing back just nicely!). Then after that God knows!

I am sending all my hugs and best wishes to you all

Please support me in my Race for Life....

I am running it for Mel

Thanks
