Story
Thank you for visiting my Race for Life fundraising page.
This is a once in a lifetime opportunity to pay me (or more specifically Cancer Research UK) to exercise. Those of you who know me well... and even those who don't... will know how averse I am to any form of exercise, so will appreciate how much hard work it's going to take to get me in shape for this! If nothing else, donate the money out of pity for Ben, who is unofficially in charge of training me!
If you still need an incentive, I'll even throw in the offer of a bad photo of me post-race, not in my standard sideways-on chin-out pose, posted on facebook. You know how much it hurts me to offer this.
Other than running (yes, running!) the race to get fit, I'm also running in recognition of people in my life and the lives of my friends who've been affected by cancer. A school friend died of Leukemia when she was just 9 years old; Grandad Fred died of lung cancer when I was 10; Grandma Peg suffered with colon cancer and associated illnesses for years; Grandad John had suspected lung cancer, and died of related illnesses. I have friends who have lost close relatives to cancer, and I think every one of us knows someone whose life has been affected by the disease. So there is a serious side to my participation in race for life - please dig as deep as you can!
Now for the official bit:
Events like Race for Life are an important way in which Cancer Research UK is able to fund its life-saving work into preventing, diagnosing and treating cancer. By sponsoring me now you could help more people survive cancer.
Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor me - Cancer Research UK will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, at least an extra 25% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you when you tick the Gift Aid box.
So please sponsor me now!
Many thanks for your support - together we will beat cancer.
