Story

Hello,

Sue Dearsley running????

Yes, it does sound unlikely, almost as unlikely as me wearing a hat. But I've been fortunate enough to wear a hat twice recently as we have celebrated the marriages of Richard to Kate, and Jonathan to Laura. Both weddings were gloriously happy times, made even more special by the fact that we could share them with family and friends. But we were also conscious on the day of the people who couldn't be there: Laura's grandmother who was so special to her; her grandfather, and my Mum who died just a few months before Jonathan's wedding.

This got me thinking about all the people who won't be at weddings this summer - the dads who won't walk their daughters up the aisle; the mums who won' t be worrying about their hats and the grandparents who won't be able to share the day with their grandchildren.

Please sponsor me (any amount, no matter how small) as I attempt to "jobble" (a cross between a jog and a wobble...) 5K around Cirencester Park on Sunday, 5th June. I won't be wearing a hat but I'll be doing it for all the people, young and old, who should have been at weddings, but couldn't make it...

Thank you for visiting my Race for Life sponsorship page. Please sponsor me online – it’s quick, easy and totally secure..

One week to go! Thank you to all the people who have sponsored me so far, and the many more (especially at church and school) who have promised money. No pressure then... At the moment I have a streaming cold and the only part of me that is running is my nose! Hopefully half term will give me a chance to get back into training.

Finally, as many people know, our niece Chloe was tragically killed in a car accident last month. I've thought about her a lot as I have been out running and this race will also be in memory of her.

UPDATE!!

I did it! And in 36 minutes. It was a great experience, although half way up that long hill I had to keep reminding myself how much I was enjoying it...

Thank you to all the people who have sponsored me. I think the final total will be well over £300 which is absolutely brilliant. Didn't go running today but now just beginning to wonder if I could ever manage a 10K...

THE FINAL BIT...

Have just sent off cheque to Cancer Research UK. The final total, including the money raised online, was a fantastic £500! Thank you to everyone who donated - and I still want to carry on with the running...
