In May 2015, the dog world lost a special lady called Melissa Hills to cancer. In Melissa’s memory, her friends and fellow Afghan Hound exhibitors Claire & Liz Millward, Polly Forrester, Jo House and Masha Shaverneva came together to form the Run for the Hills team and competed in a Spartan sprint challenge. With support of the dog community, they raised over £12,000 for their two nominated charities Macmillan and Wisdom Hospice.

After that initial year, the team decided to keep up the fundraising since for Melissa and also in memory of all the other dog people who have lost their lives to cancer. To date the team has completed various activities and raised nearly £17,000 plus gift aid to charities including Alzheimer’s Society and Target Ovarian Cancer in addition to the two mentioned above.

2018 is no different and the teams nominated charities are Support Dogs and the British Thyroid Foundation. Jo House has already completed a triathlon and Spartan Super and a cake sale has been held.

This is only the start though, Jo House is tackling the Spartan Sprint on 15th July and Spartan Beast on 6th October, she is also taking part in a sprint triathlon on the 22nd July. Claire Millward will be completing the National Three Peaks Challenge. She will be facing Ben Nevis on the 1st July and will be joined by Susan Crummey on this climb, the second climb will be Scarfell Pike on 15th July and finally will climb Snowden on 19th August where she will be joined by Liz Millward, Jo House and Michaela Hills.
