Hi Everyone,
Thank you for visiting my Windsurfing For Cancer Research fund raising page.
On 1st May as many of us as possible are taking to the water to show our support for this great charity (I'll be out at Rutland Water). Some groups and individuals are setting personal challenges for the day - such as the length of time they can spend on the water, achieving a set distance or speed target etc. I have great admiration for anyone showing some support on the day, whether just by getting out there or making a donation to those who do.
The 2011 Sunrise to Sunset day holds greater precedence than ever given that the charity’s founder, David Tuttlebee, lost his brave fight against cancer in September last year. There’s some background about the charity on the W4CR page here, and a really touching blog that David kept here. Please take the time to have a read through as it gives some real insight into what this must have been like and gives some perspective to how lucky those of us are who live from day to day in good health.
I know times are tough but I do hope that you can support this great cause either through my page or by donating through others who are planning to be out and about on Sunday 1st May.
Best wishes,
Rik
2nd May Thanks to everyone who got themselves onto the water yesterday - what a terrific experience in the windy and sunny conditions. I appreciate everyone who has shown their support.
I was pleased to break my average speed record on the GPS Speed Surfing website - just short of my 30kt target over the 5x 10 second runs but still not too bad - the track image and link can be viewed here. I am going to have another go later today.
Notes: Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.
