Story
Four years ago I started working for Dimbleby Cancer Care. I didn't know much about cancer or been personally affected by it at the time, but it was an interesting job and a chance to do something that made a difference, even if in a small way.
Then in June 2012 my friend Caroline, aged 50, was rushed to hospital and the next day was diagnosed with cancer. It was in her lungs, her brain and her spine. 7 weeks later she died. I was able to be there and do what I could to help. In that time my job suddenly became personal.
Less than a year later my colleague Georgie, who I worked with on a daily basis as it was just the two of us back then, was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. Georgie was 65. She underwent successful surgery but didn't return to work, and passed away a year later in April 2014.
I have met many fantastic people over the past 4 years - patients, survivors, carers and those left behind. Inspiring people who are going through unimaginable pain and sorrow yet find a way through. Also nurses and therapists who provide help and comfort.
Without the funding provided by charities like DImbleby Cancer Care the support and care services that help make a massive difference to people living with cancer would not be available to those who need it most. So give what you can and help us raise £50,000. Even £5 will provide a comfortable pillow, so every little counts.
I'm doing this for Caroline, and for Georgie, and to help ensure that we can carry on supporting people living with cancer into the future.
Thank you.
