Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

By doing this trek for the Stars Appeal, an amazing local charity, I hope in some small way to make a difference to others in our local community.

A new MRI scanner at Salisbury hospital will mean that friends, loved ones, friends of friends, sons, daughters, Mum's, Dad's, Aunt's, Uncle's just about everyone in our local community, who finds themselves faced with a possible diagnosis for a life changing disease will, with the help of an extra MRI scanner get a faster, more accurate diagnosis, with the latest diagnostic techniques.  It will also reduce the need for invasive procedures for an estimated whopping extra 10,000 patients per year.  The existing MRI scanner is already running at full capacity.

As my friends and family will know, two years ago we lost my aunt very suddenly to bowel cancer.  Despite her having had all the necessary check-ups and procedures which a women of her age has, this disease was never picked up.  One day she was her usual vibrant vivacious self and ten days later she was lost to us.  It was incredibly sudden, totally unexpected and extremely distressing for those who loved her.  Neither she nor her children or the rest of her family had any time to come to terms with what was happening or have an opportunity to spend
those precious last moments together and to say their goodbyes.

The surgeon who is headlining this event for the Stars Appeal is Mr Graham Branagan a Consultant Surgeon who specialises in colorectal conditions.  This new MRI scanner will provided significant advances in diagnosis for bowel cancer which currently can only be diagnosed by invasive and unpleasant procedures.  People also often have to wait to get their results as a number of different procedures have to be done, which naturally can be an extremely worrying and stressful time and for some people, too late.

Please please please sponsor me to do this event. 100% of what you sponsor me will go direct to the Stars Appeal and to this new MRI scanner.
