Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

I am fundraising for OCD Action because I believe their work is bold and pioneering for the genuine OCD Community.

OCD Action do a fantastic job because they stand up for people with OCD - a shamefully trivialised and broadly misunderstood mental illness.

There is so much education needed on OCD, as there is so much more to it than just cleanliness and symmetry, and there are many less known and more complex forms of it.  I have had OCD since age 6, and I have always been placid, never been organised, always been messy! OCD Action works to challenge the entrenched myths and repair the damage done to OCD by the media. But more importantly, it provides an advocacy service, online forums and the infrastructure for Support Groups across the country. Support Groups provide a safe place for sufferers to talk and finally vent about their struggles.

Contrary to popular belief, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder is an extremely serious and devastating condition, which often causes so much anxiety that it can spill over into co- morbidity, and (myself included) people with OCD often suffer from other conditions such as Depression, Self- Harm and Psychosis too.

OCD tainted my childhood, left me depressed from age 12 and constantly fighting a private battle ever since. The constant torrent of awful thoughts is like torture, and being bullied and threatened by my own brain to act on them for restitution, is a repetitive and frustrating task.

I love everyone in my support group and I'm so glad I discovered OCD Action. True sufferers are often secretive. I don't tend to discuss my problems generally, unless it is for OCD awareness. OCD Action is an amazing and unique charity, which has opened new lines of communication for all of us. We are now able to network and help each other out between sessions, which is a lifeline many of us have not had before.

I am going to be running the York 10k in August, hopefully with some of my Seek Solace group members by my side (or miles ahead of me!!) , and I would very much appreciate ANY donations to support me and my peers in our cause.

THANK YOU OCD ACTION !
