Story
I am running for the Simon Community who work with street homeless people in London. The Simon Community get no government funding at all and all the work they do is completely funded by donations.
In April I ran the Madrid marathon to raise money for the next winter shelter. The fundraising target was the amount it would cost the Community to provide food and shelter for 7 people, 7 nights a week for 3 months. The people who donated were generous, and we raised £470, but it wasn't enough. So I'm going to do a few more.
The Wales marathon in Pembrokeshire is on the 14th July and the Eindhoven marathon in Holland is on 13th October. I am paying the travel costs and entry fees so every penny of donated money goes towards the work of the community to help people on the streets.
If you only have a few pounds to spare, please don't let that put you off donating, the Simon Community make the money go a long way. It costs just £21 per week to keep someone in the shelter with a hot dinner, a breakfast and a new sleeping bag. So,£3 pays for someone to stay inside on a winters night, that's not even the price of two coffees.
