Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
This month, 21st May, 2020, I was due to visit my link school, Katitma Primary School, Malawi with Starfish Malawi for a teacher exchange, along with other school teachers from Kent and East Sussex. To say I was excited and looking forward to the trip was a slight understatement! However, for now, the Worldwide pandemic has stopped us from visiting.
So, as I can't go out to Malawi to work on our joint project, I wanted to do something to raise some funds for Starfish Malawi to help keep their amazing work in Malawi going. What better way, than doing a run, or two, or three!? I have set myself the challenge to run 100 km (63 miles), starting 21.05.2020 (the day I was flying out) in a month.
Starfish aim to develop a thriving local community by empowering children to become agents of change and who are emotionally stable, socially adaptable and educationally informed and to assist families with better education and healthcare.
Starfish Malawi is a Christian charity, primarily education based, which works to impact the lives of children both in Malawi and the UK. We are committed to follow the example of Jesus Christ in his compassion for the poor, vulnerable and marginalised by alleviating poverty through education, vocational training and use of sustainable resources. We support a number of projects in Malawi, link schools in Malawi to schools in the UK and sponsor secondary school students in Malawi among other activities. The charity has been the key funder for GTOC over the last thirteen years, providing nursery education for over
2000 children during this period. Currently 525 children are enrolled.
Additionally, clothes, food, mosquito nets, shoes, medical care and help for guardians to support disadvantaged children through Key Workers' home visits are provided.
