We support people affected by OCD to help change their lives for the better

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

OCD (obsessive compulsive disorder) affects 1-2% of the population. OCD is a mental illness that is debilitating and draining for individuals. People with this disorder experience repetitive and negative intrusive thoughts that are combined with a feeling of danger, doubt and/or discomfort (obsessions). This normally results in an individual to repeat an action over and over to try and reduce the anxiety they are facing due to negative thoughts (compulsions).

There are many types of OCD and it affects many people differently. OCD is one of the most misunderstood mental illnesses. There is a lot of pervasive stigma surrounding this mental health disorder and many believe that OCD is a mild or even ‘quirky’ problem that is no more than washing hands or wanting things to be neat. Many people use the term “a bit OCD-ish” without understanding what it actually means and is.

OCD action is a charity that helps to support people suffering from this disorder. We have chosen to raise money for this charity to support and raise awareness about OCD. One reason we are doing this is because we have experienced many struggles that other families and individuals may go through due to a person we know going through the disorder. We are also hoping to do a cake sale later on in the year to support this cause as well.
