Story
How hard is it anyway? Weeks of training, fitting in the runs between work, family, chores, sleep, life. Increasing the duration, frequency and intensity every week, experiencing the highs and lows, the pain and exhaustion pushing to achieve the next goal in the journey. But how does it compare to living with Downs Syndrome?
Those who know me will also know my beautiful, cheeky, sidekick Erin and I don't need to tell you the meaning she brings to my life. You will also know that she is a happy, witty, bright, clever thriving girl with a strong willpower and fiercely independent.
The Downs Syndrome Association provides training, support education and opportunities for children and adults with Downs Syndrome as well as their parents, carers, teachers and employers. Giving a voice where it is often absent and helping to empower and enable people with Downs Syndrome to live independently and without judgement, something most of us take for granted.
This is why running a marathon will be easy for me. Not because I'm fit, no, I'm not, but because every mile will be a mile for Erin, and every penny raised will help the Downs Syndrome Association to continue their invaluable work.
